Marie Riolo Roach
Ballroom and Argentine Tango
Marie Riolo Roach began dancing in early childhood in her hometown of Logansport, Indiana, and she hasn't quit since. Her early training included tap, jazz, ballet & modern dance. Marie studied in the prestigious dance program at Brigham Young University. Recognizing her teaching talent, her professors put her to work as a teaching assistant and choreographer.
After college she returned to Indiana and married Bryan Roach. She has been teaching in Indianapolis since 1989. She competed as a professional in International Standard and Latin and she continues to compete with students in the Pro/Am division.
Marie teaches International Standard, Latin and American Smooth and Rhythm and Argentine Tango. She is continually promoting dance in the community. She has taught in several local middle and high schools as well as at Indiana University in Bloomington. You can find her teaching for several local organizations and clubs. She is also the teacher for the Columbia Club's CDN (Columbian Dance Network).
In 2003, Marie discovered another love, Argentine Tango. She has since studied under some of the best in the field, both in the United States and Buenos Aires. Indianapolis' premier Argentine Tango organization, Tango Indy, named her as their principal instructor, at it's inception in 2004. Not only does Marie have a gift for teaching Argentine Tango, she also dances it beautifully. The best Milongueros (dancers) in Buenos Aires ask to dance with Marie! Some people say that Marie is one of the best female leaders currently teaching tango.
Marie is an excellent teacher. Marie was named as the best ballroom instructor in the "Best of the Best" December 2006 issue of the Indianapolis Mothly Magazine. Her understanding of both the lead and follow allow her students to progress rapidly. She is unfailingly patient and enthusiastic and enjoys teaching singles, couples and groups.
