Marie Riolo Roach

The founder of Riolo Dance, Marie began dancing in early childhood in her hometown of Logansport, Indiana, and she hasn’t quit since. Her early training included tap, jazz, ballet & modern dance. Marie studied in the prestigious dance program at Brigham Young University. Recognizing her teaching talent, her professors put her to work as a teaching assistant and choreographer.

After college she returned to Indiana and married Bryan Roach. She has been teaching in Indianapolis since 1989. She competed as a professional in International Standard and Latin and she continues to compete with students in the Pro/Am division.

Marie teaches International Standard, Latin and American Smooth and Rhythm and Argentine Tango. She is continually promoting dance in the community. She has taught in several local middle and high schools as well as at Indiana University in Bloomington. You can find her teaching for several local organizations and clubs. She is also the teacher for the Columbia Club’s CDN (Columbian Dance Network).

In 2003, Marie discovered another love, Argentine Tango. She has since studied under some of the best in the field, both in the United States and Buenos Aires. Indianapolis’ premier Argentine Tango organization, Tango Indy, named her as their principal instructor, at it’s inception in 2004. Not only does Marie have a gift for teaching Argentine Tango, she also dances it beautifully. The best Milongueros (dancers) in Buenos Aires ask to dance with Marie! Some people say that Marie is one of the best female leaders currently teaching tango.

Marie is an excellent teacher. Marie was named as the best ballroom instructor in the “Best of the Best” December 2006 issue of the Indianapolis Mothly Magazine. Her understanding of both the lead and follow allow her students to progress rapidly. She is unfailingly patient and enthusiastic and enjoys teaching singles, couples and groups.

Rob Jenkins

Rob Jenkins has been part of the Riolo studio since it opened in 2007.  He is well known as a fixture in the Indianapolis ballroom community, and he enjoys teaching all types of dances and helping students meet their goals from social to competitive.  Rob has been teaching since 1999 in American style Smooth and Rhythm. He competed professionally in American smooth with his lovely wife Melissa for five years during this time.  When Riolo opened in 2007, he joined their team and started to branch out by studying International Standard and Latin, as well as, Argentine Tango.  He is extremely proficient in these styles.  Rob also has some background with Salsa and West Coast Swing, so he is literally a “jack of all trades” in the partnership dance world!  He has spent his many years of experience coming up with more efficient ways of teaching to get results fast.  His passion for dance is exceeded only by the love of his beautiful family!

Rob also has ten years experience as a student of the Alexander Technique.  This is a method for understanding and correcting the use and mechanics of the body.  He started studying the Alexander Technique when he was competing professionally and wanted to improve his posture and movement. He quickly discovered it was an invaluable tool for understanding dance technique and teaching it in a holistic and clear manner.  Rob feels that it gives him an edge in his teaching that is important and unique.

Rob has produced several videos for beginners, a few of which are featured below.  He wanted his new students to be able to get reminders about what they did once they went home.  They are completely free and available through his website which is  Just go to the page labeled “Videos” and see the selection.

Eric Byers

Eric’s journey through dance began years back with a multitude of dance styles. He is not only an instructor, but he is a student, a fanatic, and a lover of many dance genres. Eric has had brief training in Hip Hop, Latin, and Ballroom. He infuses the connection, the rhythms, and the movements of those dances into his Swing. In 2009, he began to compete, learn, study, and teach West Coast Swing based out of the Swing Cat student organization, located on the IUPUI college campus.

Eric is the reigning NASDE All-Star Jack & Jill Tour Champion. He was awarded the title for his 2016 placements on the National Association of Swing Dance Events tour around the country. Influenced by Hip Hop, Argentine Tango, and Bachata, Eric’s unique dance style has resulted in him being internationally recognized alongside some of the best West Coast Swing dancers in the world.

Eric’s teaching style is very much like his dance: natural, fun, and intuitive. He creates an atmosphere that allows students to be comfortable letting loose and having fun in a relaxed and inclusive learning environment. His teaching has heavy focus on connection within the dance and the conversation that happens within the music between two partners. As he continues to study the world of dance, Eric hopes to spread his love of West Coast Swing to the world.

Eric teaches the Wednesday night West Coast Swing group class at Riolo and some of the Friday and Sunday events. For private lessons, please contact him directly.

He discovered his passion for Kizomba shortly thereafter, but did not begin dancing or training in the style until 2014. Lindsey Gelwicks

Lindsey Gelwicks began her dance training at 3 years old starting with ballet, and eventually adding in jazz, tap, contemporary, pointe, and musical theatre. She didn’t discover her love for social partner dancing until 2015 when she began taking salsa lessons under the instruction of Kyle Culman and Ashley Donaldson at Latin Expressions. Lindsey fell in love with Kizomba in 2016 after attending a workshop in Bloomington, Indiana. Natasha Cox

Natasha has what you call a “young spirit” called to the floors of dancing. First stepping foot into a ballroom for an attempt at the tango, she was introduced to and immediately fell in love with the other dances. Specializing in waltz, foxtrot, rhumba, cha-cha, hustle, swing, salsa, to name a few, and many other dances, this young soul has been teaching ballroom as long as she’s been dancing it. She has had personal training and coaching sessions from John Berry (local), Raphael Cologne, Ana Maria Chacon, Wilson Barrera and his lovely wife Elizabeth Cartier, and other world renowned coaches, once world champion dancers.

Recently partaking in the event “Dancing Like the Stars”, held each year in January, Natasha performed a rhumba with one of her students at the Paramount Theatre located in Anderson, Indiana. Natasha plans to compete with dance and to continue auditioning at major dance events around the U.S., and possibly the world.

Natasha teaches private lessons in both smooth and rhythm dances for singles, couples, groups and for wedding couples. Her goal is not only to continue to develop in her dancing but to bring out the inner dancer in each of her students.
