CLASS / EVENT SCHEDULE

Riolo offers a wide range of dance programming. Whether you're a complete beginner or seasoned dancer, we've got your covered.  Check out our full list of dance disciplines, classes, workshops and social events below.

ARGENTINE TANGO

The dance relies heavily on improvisation by the leader.  The tango is essentially walking with a partner to music keeping your feet close to the floor as you move with your ankles and knees brushing as one leg passes the other. Argentine Tango is different from ballroom tangos in its posture, embrace, improvisational techniques, movement, balance, steps and music. If your background is in American or International tango, your introduction to Argentine tango will be like learning a completely new dance.

BACHATA

Although Bachata is quite different from salsa or merengue, the intensity and sensuality is just as strong, if not more so. The actual basics are very easy to learn and understand. The basic footwork is a series of simple steps that produce a back and forth or sideways movement. Starting with the left foot (woman with the right foot) moving to the left on counts 1,2,3. On 4, tipping the right toe beside your left foot or in place. Then do the same from your right foot. The character of the dance is achieved through sensual hip and body movements.

BALLROOM

Not a specific dance, but rather a grouping of dances. Our ballroom programs allow you to learn the basics and advanced steps of the worlds most popular dances.  From the smooth Waltz, Tango and Foxtrot to the rhythmic Cha Cha, Rumba, Bolero, Mambo, Samba and Swing,

KIZOMBA

Kizomba is an African dance characterized by close partner connection and smooth, grounded movement. In Kizomba, there is no “basic step” after the fashion of ballroom dances, to be repeated continuously throughout the dance. Instead, movement with the music is the priority, and steps are incorporated according to the range of your vocabulary. Kizomba can be successfully danced with only four or five moves, and yet mastery lies in the subtlety of movement and of the lead-follow connection.

SALSA

Salsa is similar to Mambo in that both have a pattern of six steps danced over eight counts of music. The dances share many of the same moves. Turns are an important feature, with an overall side to side feel for the dance.

WEST COAST SWING

West Coast Swing is a smooth dance style that is danced in a slot (a narrow line) and consists of 6-beat and 8-beat patterns, making it perfect for a crowded dance floor. West Coast Swing is danced to a variety of music, including contemporary pop, rock, blues, funk and country/western. West Coast Swing also stresses leader-follower connection and dancing in close harmony with the music.
